Rafflesia arnoldii
Is an obligate plant parasites which are notorious for
having very large bungaberukuran, even the world's largest flower. He grew up
in the network of vines (lianas) Tetrastigma and has no leaves and is unable to
photosynthesize.
This plant is endemic on the island of Sumatra, particularly
the southern part (Bengkulu, Jambi and South Sumatra). Kerinci Seblat National
Park is an area of major conservation of this species.
This species, together with the other members of the genus
Rafflesia, threatened status is due to massive deforestation. In Java patma
grow only one type of parasite, Rafflesia patma.
Interest is a parasite is not rooted, no leaves, and not stemmed.
Diameter of flowers when in bloom can reach 1 meter with a weight about 11
pounds. Flowers suck inorganic and organic elements of the host plant
Tetrastigma.
The only part that could be called "crops" are
grown on vines jaringanyang Tetrastigma. Flowers have five petals that surround
the part that looks like a barrel-shaped mouth. At the base there are parts
like the disc flowers spiked, contain stamens or pistil flowers depending on
gender, male or female.
Animal pollinators are flies attracted by the smell of
rotting flowers yangdikeluarkan. Interest only about one week old (5-7 days)
and after that wilt and die. Very small percentage of fertilization, because
bungajantan and female flowers bloom very rarely together in a single week, if
any flies that came fertilize.
Carrion flowers
Also called giant or rod suweg krebuit (local name for the
vegetative phase), Amorphophallus titanum Becc., Is a plant of the
tribe-talasan taro (Araceae) endemic of Sumatra, Indonesia, known as a plant
with flowers (plural) in the world, although note mentions that a relative, A.
gigas (also of the Sumatran endemic) can generate interest as high as 5m.
Its name comes from the flowers that smell like carrion
yangmembusuk, which meant in fact to invite beetle and fly pollinators for
flowers. In nature these plants live in wet rainforest. Corpse flower is the
official flower of the province of Bengkulu.
This plant has two phases in his life which appear by turns,
the phase of vegetative and generative phase. In the vegetative phase the
leaves and stems appear quasi. Height can reach 6m. After some time (years),
this wilted vegetative organs and tuber dormancy.
If sufficient food reserves in the tuber and supportive
environment, plural flowers will appear. If less food reserves to grow back
their leaves.
The flowers are very large and high, shaped like a phallus
(actually the cob or spadix) surrounded by a sheath of interest is also large.
The flowers are monoecious and protogini: female flowers receptive first, then
followed cooked male flowers, as a mechanism to prevent self-pollinating.
